Comparison
ImageStep vs Wireflow
Wireflow is a visual canvas where creative teams chain image, video and audio models and then call the saved workflow over REST; ImageStep is an image API that automations and AI agents call one step at a time, with AI ops and deterministic ones — resize, convert, compress, read metadata — in the same job, priced in dollars before it runs. If you are looking for a Wireflow alternative because you build in n8n, an agent or a script and only need images, that is what ImageStep is for. If you need video, audio, ad production or a canvas your team edits by hand, stay with Wireflow.
Facts about Wireflow checked 2 October 2026 against its own pricing page, API docs and public node catalogue, npm and n8n's registry. Each one links its source, and the full list is at the bottom.

| Built for | “AI orchestration platform for creative teams”: image, video and audio models chained on a visual canvas.Source: Wireflow llms.txt | Automations and AI agents: the image step inside an n8n workflow, an agent loop or a script, written and audited by a person, called by a program. |
| Media | Image, video, audio and 3D — 182 node types in its public catalogue.Source: Wireflow node catalogue (GET /api/v1/nodes) | Still images only. No video, audio or PDF. |
| What a program calls | A saved canvas workflow by id: POST /api/v1/workflows/{id}/run, then poll for the result or take a signed webhook.Source: Wireflow API page · Wireflow llms.txt | One op, or a saved preset by slug and version, as a job: POST /api/v1/jobs. Most deterministic ops also have a synchronous call that answers with the bytes. |
| Deterministic image ops | No dedicated node resizes, crops, converts, compresses or reads the metadata of an image; its image utilities are background removal, upscaling and splitting an image into layers, and layout happens in a Compositor that stacks images, text and video.Source: Wireflow node catalogue (GET /api/v1/nodes) | resize, crop, convert, compress, trim, pad, overlay, caption and more, in the same job as an AI step. They take no credit on paid plans, and reading an image's metadata is free on every plan. |
| Price of an AI step | Credits at $0.01 each, with “progressive margins: cheaper generations carry a higher markup, expensive ones a lower one.”Source: Wireflow pricing | USD per image, at no more than 1.5× the provider's list price for the work it quotes; the provider's price sits next to ours in the public op catalogue, and a dry run returns a job's exact cost before it spends. |
| When a step fails | “Failed executions are automatically refunded.”Source: Wireflow API page | A failed item is not charged and carries an error code and a retryable flag; a chain resumes from the step that failed without paying again for the steps that finished. |
| The same character or product | A “passport” convention in its agent guidelines — “a record using existing documents/assets/brand kits, not a new API entity”.Source: Wireflow agent guidelines | A preset subject: reference images plus a locked descriptor, saved in the preset and pinned by its version; each prompt writes {{subject.hero}} instead of describing it again. |
| Client libraries | “There is no official SDK.” Any HTTP client works, and its MCP server is the packaged client for agents.Source: Wireflow REST API docs | JavaScript and Python SDKs and a CLI, typed from the OpenAPI document — the source is on GitHub. The Python SDK is on PyPI as imagestep; the JavaScript SDK and the CLI are coming to npm. |
| n8n | A community node, n8n-nodes-wireflow (0.1.1 on npm, July 2026). It is not on n8n's verified list, and n8n Cloud runs verified community nodes only, so it needs a self-hosted n8n.Source: n8n-nodes-wireflow on npm · n8n verified community node registry, queried for n8n-nodes-wireflow · n8n docs: community node installation | The n8n-nodes-imagestep node is coming. Until then, n8n's HTTP Request node calls the REST API: one POST per op, the API key in a header credential. |
| MCP | An MCP server with OAuth for Claude, Cursor and any MCP client; it is also a Claude connector.Source: Wireflow llms.txt · Wireflow pricing | A hosted MCP server, authenticated with an API key; images travel as asset ids and URLs, never through the context window. |
| For agents that read the site | llms.txt, an RFC 9727 API catalog, an agent-skills index, an MCP server card and an unauthenticated model catalogue with credit costs.Source: Wireflow llms.txt | llms.txt, an API catalog, an agent skill, an MCP server card and an unauthenticated op catalogue with USD prices. |
One pipeline, run for real
The marketplace cut-out preset, run on 16 September 2026 against api.imagestep.dev: a product photo in, a listing-ready picture out — background removed, trimmed to the product, flattened onto white and compressed to WebP, as one job. The model step costs $0.0227 per image and the three deterministic steps add nothing on a paid plan — a dry run of the preset says exactly that before anything runs. What came out is a 491 × 380 WebP of 7.3 KB.

}Wireflow's catalogue has the first step — Bria, BiRefNet, BEN2 and rembg background removal — but no dedicated node that trims, compresses or converts an image, so the rest of this preset would be built from its Compositor or run somewhere else. Save it and run it on your own photo in the quickstart.
What Wireflow does better
- Video, audio and 3D, and editing them: Kling, Veo, Seedance, ElevenLabs, a video editor and a compositor for layered layouts. ImageStep has none of it.
- A canvas people build on together, in real time, before any code calls it.
- Publishing a workflow as a branded app on your own domain.
- Research nodes that pull TikTok content, Meta ads, Instagram Reels and Reddit posts into a workflow.
- Done-for-you ad creative, if you would rather not build the workflow at all.
- An n8n node you can install today, on a self-hosted n8n.

Stay with Wireflow if your workflow ends in a video or an ad, if people edit the pipeline on a canvas, or if you want it published as an app. Use ImageStep if a program runs the image step and you need the deterministic half — sizes, formats, compression, metadata — in the same job as the model step, at a price you can read before it spends.
Questions
- Is ImageStep a Wireflow alternative?
- For the image step inside an automation, yes: a program calls one op or a saved preset, deterministic ops run in the same job as the model step, and the price is in dollars before it runs. For video, audio, a canvas your team edits by hand or ad production, no — Wireflow covers those and ImageStep does not.
- Does Wireflow have an SDK or an n8n node?
- No official SDK: its REST API docs say “There is no official SDK.” It does publish an n8n community node, n8n-nodes-wireflow, on npm; it is not on n8n's verified list, so it installs on a self-hosted n8n and not on n8n Cloud.
- How do the prices compare?
- They are priced differently, so compare a run, not a plan. Wireflow sells credits at $0.01 with a margin that is higher on cheaper generations. ImageStep prices each AI op in USD per image at no more than 1.5× the provider's list price, deterministic ops take no credit on paid plans, and a dry run returns a job's exact cost before it spends.
- Can I use ImageStep from n8n today?
- Yes, through n8n's HTTP Request node: every op is one POST to the REST API with your API key in a header credential, and the response carries a job id or, for a deterministic op on the synchronous endpoint, the image itself. The native node, n8n-nodes-imagestep, is coming.
- Does ImageStep do video?
- No. ImageStep handles still images only — no video, audio or PDF. If your pipeline ends in a video, Wireflow, which chains Kling, Veo and Seedance alongside image models, is the closer fit.
